Warning
Severe infections like tuberculosis, shingles, fungal infections and other bacterial or viral infections have happened in patients who take baricitinib. Sometimes, this could be deadly. The risk is greater if you also take drugs that suppress the immune system like methotrexate or corticosteroids. If you get a bad infection, your doctor may stop baricitinib until the infection is under control. Call your doctor right away if you have fever, chills, or sweating; cough; muscle aches; shortness of breath; more sputum or change in color of sputum; red, warm, swollen, painful, or blistered skin; weight loss; stomach pain; diarrhea; pain with passing urine or passing urine more often; or feeling tired or weak.
TB (tuberculosis) has been seen in patients started on baricitinib. These patients were exposed to TB in the past, but never got the infection. You will be tested to see if you have been exposed to TB before starting baricitinib.
Lymphoma, skin cancer, and other types of cancer have happened in people treated with baricitinib. Talk with your doctor.
Blood clots have happened with baricitinib. Sometimes, these blood clots have been deadly. Call your doctor right away if you have chest, arm, back, neck, or jaw pain or pressure; coughing up blood; numbness or weakness on 1 side of your body, trouble speaking or thinking, change in balance, or change in eyesight; shortness of breath; or swelling, warmth, or pain in the leg or arm.
